Collective Vocation
It is tempting to focus our attention on exploring vocation on individuals. When we are exploring Christian vocation, although our focus may be in the particular calling that God may have for us individually, that can never be disconnected from the other member of the Christian communities of which we are a part or from the wider body that is the Church. We are one body of many differing parts and gifts but united in a whole. We need each other to help us to discern our vocations as well as to discover how to live them out. For this reason we believe the After Sunday course on 'Have you Seen a Burning Bush' needs to be done in the context of a gathered community.
There is however another dimension to the exploration of vocation, and that is to address the collective vocation of a whole community. Our experience of God is that he calls as whole people for a special purpose as well as calling us as individuals.
What might be the distinct vocation of your gathered church community or congegation?
At After Sunday we have had experience of working with a range of Christian communities to explore the question of their collective vocation. If you are interested to discuss ways of working on this important topic then we are happy to share our experiences.
If you had direct experience of discerning collective vocation then please share it here so that others might benefit from it.
Share you experinces of developing collective vocation.
